I, the undersigned, have read the q Internet And Computer Acceptable Use Policy  (WJML) and/or q  Wireless Internet Access Guidelines (WJML) (check one or both, where applicable) for access to library workstations and/or computer network(s), including wireless internet access -- all provided by the William Jeanes Memorial Library (WJML).  I understand these guidelines and procedures (collectively, the “Policy”) and agree to follow them.  I understand that staff and Directors of the WJML do not warrant this service to be free of interruption, the use of the internet will be secure or  maintain the user’s privacy, nor do they warrant the accuracy or character of the information to be found on the internet.

I further understand that the WJML has installed a filter on all workstations consistent with the Children’s internet Protection Act (CIPA), in order to protect against access to images harmful to minors.  I also understand that both children under the age of 14 with the written permission of their parent or guardian, and adults doing bona fide research may request that the filter be turned off during their session(s).  The Library will endeavor to maintain all requests for non-filtered internet access to be confidential.

At present, nonfiltered internet access is only available on library computer workstations and its wired internet network.

I will not attempt to bypass, alter or, in any way, use the hardware and software provided by the WJML for any other purposes than those described in the Policies.  I will not hold the WJML, its affiliates, and its and their respective officers, directors, employees, agents and representatives liable for any damages, direct or indirect, which may arise from use of the library’s computer workstations,  and/or providing internet access, whether wired or wireless.

·         No Guaranty of Privacy - The use of the internet and e-mail are not guaranteed to be private or secure. The library cannot assure the confidentiality of credit card or other personal information transmitted through library computers or on its computer network(s). Minors are especially warned to not disclose personal information to strangers in any form of electronic communication.

·         Filtering of internet Content - Please note, filtering is not completely reliable, and access to obscene materials and images or materials patrons find personally offensive is still possible. The library cannot be held responsible for patrons who gain access to such sites.

·         Offensive Images - All patrons are asked to remember that they are in a public building and to show consideration for others when viewing web sites. Offensive images are harassing to the public and staff. Explicit sexual material, as defined in 18 Pa. C.S.A. 5903, may not be displayed on or printed from library workstations.

·         Advisory to Parents & Guardians - The library advises parents or guardians that they, not the Library or its staff, need to be responsible for the internet information selected and/or accessed by their children. Parents who believe their children cannot responsibly use the Library’s internet access workstations are requested to monitor their children’s internet use.

In consideration for the privilege of using this system, I will agree to abide by such guidelines and procedures.
